Startup Legend Visits Ramallah
Leaders Organization was honored to host Dave McClure during his first visit to Palestine. During the visit, Dave met with community leaders of the Palestinian entrepreneurial scene, the most promising startups and many members of the community while hosted as the guest speaker for Startup Grind Ramallah.
Dave McClure is the founding partner of 500 Startups, a venture capital firm and startup incubator in Silicon Valley with over $125M under management. He has been an investor in hundreds of companies around the world including Credit Karma, Twilio, MakerBot, Wildfire Interactive, Viki, Mashery, SendGrid, Mint.com, and SlideShare, among others.
McClure arrived at Palestine’s first mini tech park “eZone,” Thursday morning where he started the day by meeting with the people leading the Palestinian eco-system, transforming it into an innovation-based one. He met with Palestinian VCs, investment funds, accelerators, and incubators, with whom he discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the environment and how all can collaborate and exchange experiences to accelerate the process of taking the eco-system to the next level, where at least one Palestinian startup would reach an exit point or an IPO to have many others follow afterwards.
Later on, Shadi Atshan; Leaders Organization Director, took McClure for a tour at eZone during which he met our startups, both accelerated and hosted. Mr. McClure was then hosted by Startup Grind Ramallah, where community members from throughout Palestine heard Dave’s story.
The visit concluded with a demo session, where a number of Palestinian startups pitched their companies to Dave. Dave was impressed by many of them, to the extent that he decided to keep a couple of them in mind for the next batch of 500 Startups investment program
